Job Position: Part-Time Graphic Designer
Publications: Gulf Coast Scuttlebutt & Southeast Scuttlebutt
Type: Part-Time (approximately 40 hours every two months)
Location: Remote (U.S. based preferred)
About the Role
We are looking for a creative and reliable Part-Time Graphic Designer to help produce two of our popular regional boating and cruising publications: Gulf Coast Scuttlebutt and Southeast Scuttlebutt.
You will play a key role in the visual storytelling of the cruising lifestyle, working on everything from layout and design to advertising creative and promotional materials for these two fun, reader-focused magazines.
Key Responsibilities
Design and layout both publications from start to finish (including covers, feature spreads, departments, and classifieds).
Create print-ready layouts using InDesign while maintaining strong visual consistency and brand standards.
Design eye-catching advertisements for marine businesses, brokers, and marinas.
Prepare files for print production and work with the printer on proofs and corrections.
Occasionally design supporting digital assets (social media graphics, e-blasts, website banners, and promotional materials).
Collaborate closely with editors, publishers, and sales team on deadlines.
Assist with occasional special sections, event promotions, or advertiser needs.
Schedule: Approximately 40 hours every two months, with heavier hours during production weeks. Flexible scheduling around production deadlines.
Requirements & Qualifications
Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) — mandatory.
2+ years of professional graphic design experience, preferably in magazine, newspaper, or publication design.
Excellent sense of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy.
Ability to work independently while meeting tight deadlines.
Experience designing for print publications is highly preferred.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
