A Salty Victory
MIASF’s Award Winning “Salty Jobs” Series Earns Bronze Telly Award for Education & Discovery
The Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) recently announced that its workforce development initiative, Salty Jobs™, has earned a Bronze Telly Award in the Series: Education & Discovery category for Season 6 of the award-winning video series. Created by MIASF in 2016, Salty Jobs™ was developed to introduce younger generations to the wide range of careers available across the marine industry using engaging, story-driven video content.
Produced by The Media Lab under the direction of Jimmy Floyd, with support from season sponsor Captain Sandy’s Charities, Salty Jobs™ showcases careers across the marine sector, from technical trades and operations to marketing, engineering, marina management, law enforcement, research, and entrepreneurship. Each four-to-five-minute episode gives viewers a hands-on look into the day-to-day experiences, educational pathways, certifications, and career growth opportunities tied to these roles.
“We are incredibly honored to receive another Telly Award for Salty Jobs Season 6,” says Amy Winer, Executive Producer of Salty Jobs and MIASF Executive Support Manager. “This recognition highlights the importance of continuing to create educational content that connects audiences to the many career pathways available throughout the marine industry while helping inspire future workforce talent.”
With more than 142,000 jobs supported by an $18.5 billion economic impact in South Florida alone, the marine industry represents one of the region’s most important economic drivers. Marine careers in South Florida also pay approximately 16 percent higher than the state average. Now in its seventh season, Salty Jobs™ has generated more than 8.5 million YouTube views across 50+ episodes showcasing over 100 careers across the marine industry.
The program is hosted by MIASF Workforce Development Specialist Anthony Santiago, whose own journey through marine magnet programs, internships, and student competitions inspired his passion for connecting others to opportunities within the field. “One of the most rewarding parts of hosting Salty Jobs is meeting the people behind the marine industry and helping share their stories with students and viewers,” says Santiago. “This award reflects the collaboration, passion, and industry support that make the series possible.”
Season 6 featured a lineup of co-hosts and industry professionals, including Katherine O’Fallon, Executive Director of the Marine Research Hub, Kevin Ricks, Past MIASF Intern at Pier Sixty-Six Marina, and many others. Season 6 also featured MIASF members and organizations representing multiple sectors of the marine industry, including APH Marine Construction, CAYAGO Americas, Inc., Environmental Marine, Griffin’s Yacht Services, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, SailPlan, and Tender Care Boats.
As MIASF continues expanding the Salty Jobs™ initiative, the organization remains focused on inspiring the next generation of marine industry professionals while strengthening workforce development efforts across South Florida and beyond.
